Origin Story
The 'Last Son Of Krypton' debuted in Action Comics #1. That comic book issue, which is now worth millions, originally released in June 1938. It was a major success for DC Comics.
The great depression was at its height in 1938. The morale in United States was extremely low. It is one of the most despairing times in our history.
Creators
Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster created Superman. They were born to Jewish immigrants.
They had a desire to create a hero, a hero that comes from another planet, which stood for truth and justice. A hero that could inspire. An outsider that could bring out the best in humanity.
Man Of Steel
Superman leaves his doomed planet of Krypton to come to earth. He is found and raised by a loving family in Smallville, Kansas. When older, he travels to Metropolis where he becomes Superman. Going by his public identity, Clark Kent, he works as a newspaper reporter for The Daily Planet.
Impact
Superman is often credited as the very first superhero. He would inspire other well-known comic book characters and become the template for the American superhero. Comic book writers from around the globe have added to the mythos that Siegel and Shuster crafted.
His impact was so big it would go beyond just comic books. Superman would appear in countless cartoons, TV shows, and movies since his inceptionnearly 100 years ago. He is one of the main faces of the DC Universe.
Superman 2025
In 2025, Superman is returning to the big screen. The latest film will be directed by James Gunn and sees David Corenswet portraying the Man of Steel. The film will also see the return of iconic Superman characters like Lex Luthor, Lois Lane and more. DC Universe counterparts like Green Lantern will also be featured.
