Allen Iverson Reebok Shoe Guide

Allen Iverson is easily one of the most popular basketball players of all-time. A debate can be made that his signature line might just be the most important line ever – that does not have a Jumpman on it.

The Reebok Question

When Allen Iverson received his signature line for Reebok, signature lines were still quite rare. Especially when you consider Iverson got a signature deal straight out of college. The first Question that debuted was the “Red Toe” colorway. The Question, especially in the Red Toe OG colorway, is still a sneaker icon today.

The Reebok Answer 1

The Answer 1 was the second Allen Iverson signature from Reebok. It was a follow-up to the Question from Reebok.

Reebok changed the name of the second signature model to the Answer. DMX tech would debut in the line. DMX was visible on the outsole and relied on podular, moving air. It was an incredibly comfortable basketball shoe.

The Reebok Answer 2

The 1998-1999 NBA season was a true breakout one for Allen Iverson. He would lead the league in scoring, and he would lead the 76ers to the playoffs.

The Team DMX Answer Lite was a simpler version of the Answer 2. Both shoes had "Iverson" written on the front. They also used "DMX Lite" cushioning. During the 1998-1999 season, college basketball teams started wearing Allen Iverson signature shoes.

The Reebok Answer 3

The Answer 3 featured DMX cushioning and a full-grain leather upper. The 3 launched in 1999. A handful of colorways were originally released.

Iverson made his all-star game debut in the Answer 3. This was at the 2000 NBA All-Star game in Oakland. The Answer 3 was on the feet of Iverson as his pop culture and basketball relevancy continued to grow.

The Reebok Answer 4

By the time the Reebok Answer 4 dropped, Iverson was solidified as a cultural icon. His style, and on the court performance, took him to the highest level of fame.

The Answer 4 used full length DMX cushioning. The 4 took a lot of risks when it came to style and aesthetic. Reebok and Iverson were changing sneaker fashion with the 4.

The Reebok Answer 5

The 5 was originally released in 2002. By the time, the Answer 5 hit the market the Iverson line was on fire. It was established as one of the icons of the sneaker world.

When the 5 launched, AI had just signed a lifetime deal with Reebok. Popular colorways of the 5 included the black/silver and white/silver. Iverson would win another scoring title with the 5 on his feet.

The Reebok Answer 6

The Reebok Answer 6 released in 2002. There is a zipper on the 6, which helps it achieve a dress shoe type look.

The 6 did not have the DMX cushioning that previous Answer models had. It had construction at the forefront that gave the shoe a low to the ground fit.

The Answer 6 was a solid addition to the Iverson legacy. But it is not one of the more fondly remembered installments.

The Reebok Answer 7

The Reebok Answer 7 released in 2003. The 2003-2004 NBA season was a tough one for the Philadelphia 76ers and Iverson. The 7 suffered in popularity because it was such a down year for AI and his team.

The Answer 7 was the eighth signature sneaker for Iverson. DMX cushioning returned to the series with the 7. The rubber technology on the outsole allowed for increased durability.

The Reebok Answer 8

The Reebok Answer 8 launched in 2004. The shoe tapped into nostalgia to try and bring back some of the magic of the Reebok Question.

Some styles of the 8 had a colorful toe box, like the Question. The 8 had more creative details. It included a special ventilation system shaped like the number 8. Iverson would have a great season in the shoe.

The Reebok Answer 9

The Answer 9 launched in 2005. The line had been available for a while when the 9 launched. Reebok introduced new features with the 9. This was done to keep the series fresh and exciting.

The Answer 9 was a bulky shoe and extremely heavy. It has a higher cut than previous Iverson models. The shoe featured Reebok’s Pump 2.0 system. It also had DMX Shear cushioning.

The Reebok Answer 10

2006 was a big year for Iverson and Reebok. In 2006, Iverson would become a member of the Denver Nuggets. His iconic career in Philadelphia would end. It was a new era for AI.

2006 also marked the release of the tenth Reebok Answer shoe. It was a sleeker shoe than the 9, which was a bulky and heavy shoe.

The Reebok Answer 11

The design team was continuing to push the Iverson line into new and different directions with the Answer 11. Unfortunately, the shoe is one of the more forgettable ones in the series. It was released in 2007, and it featured a midfoot strap and a 3/4 cut design.

Iverson was starting a new phase in his career. He played his first full season with the Denver Nuggets.

The Reebok Answer 12

The 12 was a more streamlined design which was consistent with the early days of the line. The 12 launched in 2008. That same year AI was traded from the Nuggets to the Pistons. Sadly, this move would start the decline of AI’s productivity on the court.

Iverson changed his number to 1 from 3 when he moved to Detroit. Because of this, the 12 had to make some design changes since his number 3 was usually a part of the line’s design.

The Reebok Answer 13

The 13 marked the end of Iverson’s line and was on the guard’s feet when he played his final games in the NBA. Iverson’s final season was sadly forgettable. He would sign with the Grizzlies, but he was not happy with his role on the team.

The 13 had a design that did not become popular. Combined with Iverson’s problems on and off the court, it was a failure. The iconic series ended bitterly.

The Reebok Question 2

The Question 2 was a direct follow up to the Question 1. The Question 1 was released years before this 2004 follow up.

The series had transitioned to the Reebok Answer for Iverson's signature shoe. AI wore the shoes during the 2004 Olympics. Team USA lost in the semifinals round, which was a huge disappointment. The shocking loss of Team USA impacted the reception of the Question 2.

The Reebok Question 3

After the failure of the Question 2, you would think Reebok would end the series Iverson series. But a few years after the launch of the 2, Reebok gave the Question series another shot.

The Question 3 did not do any better than the 2 unfortunately. It was ignored by sneaker fans. The Question 3 had Hexalite cushioning, a thicker midsole, and a mid-cut collar.

The Reebok Q96

Reebok basketball was struggling to keep its basketball division alive by 2013. It decided to go back to the archive and try its luck with a nostalgic favorite.
