How We Are Styling the Future

How We Are Styling the Future

What’s In and What’s Out?

Over the past few years, we have been experiencing a very 80s retro revival. This consisted of retro colors, designs, and overall vibes. A stylistic shift can be expected for the upcoming year though with a whole new vibe ready to take over.

Color Schemes

Neutrals are what we are looking for in the New Year. Color schemes will be dominated by earth tones, creams, greys, and white. More vibrant colors like lavender and baby blue are calm and muted. If colors are dark, they are rich and deep rather than flashy. Although things are more neutral, that does not necessarily mean minimalism. Layers and accessories are not going anywhere. It appears that we are finally developing a new style, something to define this generation of young adults.

Gen Z

Gen Z has been adamant about keeping it effortlessly cool yet comfy. The revival of gorp core is not too far-fetched, especially with the rise of stylish sporty sneakers. This style can easily morph with the times as it includes an array of elements such as sleek sunglasses, chromatic and reflective elements, and an array of oversized jackets and pants. It can also be extremely functional with many pockets and a complimentary bag to complete the ensemble.

Gen Z is also obsessed with the thrifting experience, adding a new meaning to futuristic fashion. Many people utilize the second-hand shopping experience as well as supporting smaller and more sustainable businesses, repurposing retro fashion and making it completely their own. This can also be seen in the prominent AHS/streetwear style that is popular among many young adults who share their style online. This aesthetic consists of thought-out layers, rich colors, and statement accessories, drawing big inspiration from streetwear fashionistas from the 90s and 2000s. This reimagined style has taken over a good portion of today’s young fashion community. And of course, this comes with endless tweaks and interpretations. If anything is consistent among Gen Z it is that baggy rules the school.
