All About Ayo Edebiri
Ayo Edebiri has effectively broken out in entertainment industry over the past few years, drawing the attention of many young movie and television enjoyers. Edebiri’s gateway onto the big screen began with comedy. She performed standup on the Comedy Central channel as well as had her original mini-series Ayo and Rachel Are Single debut there in 2020 alongside fellow break out comedian Rachel Sennott. The multi-talented performer continued to write and ended up working on and acting in shows such as Dickinson and Big Mouth.
The Bear
2022 brought Edebiri her big break with her role as Sydney Adamu starring alongside Jeremy Allen White in Hulu and FX’s cooking drama series The Bear. Not only did she star in the series, but she also directed an episode in 2024, further demonstrating her creative talents and winning her a Director’s Guild nomination.
Her success following The Bear is undeniable as it earned her several awards including a Golden Globe, Primetime Emmy, and Independent Spirit Award, along with additional nominations. In the same year she was brought onto the FX series What We Do in the Shadows as a writer and consulting producer which brought her additional acclaim in the form of a Writer’s Guild nomination.
After her 2023 lead in the offbeat teen comedy film Bottoms with Rachel Sennott, Edebiri’s Gen Z fanbase grew significantly. In 2023 she also starred in Hulu’s Theater Camp and made a guest appearance on the ABC sitcom Abbott Elementary. In 2024 she notably voiced Envy in Pixar’s Inside Out 2 and starred in Tyler the Creator’s “Noid” music video.
Future
A24 is reportedly eyeing Edebiri to write a new and upcoming film for them soon. Earlier this year she starred in the A24 horror film Opus as well as a thriller directed by Luca Gudagnino titled After the Hunt. Ayo Edebiri’s rise to fame is undeniable as she was also named one of the top 10 TV Performers of the year by TheWrap and is the first Black woman to be nominated for both writing and acting Emmys in the same year.
