2025 has been a banner year for Jordan Brand. Some of the all-time gems have returned for sneaker fans to grab this year. One of the releases that should garner plenty of attention this year is the Air Jordan 5 Fire Red (Black Tongue). The legendary colorway returns to Shoe Palace this September 13.

Fire Red

The Air Jordan 5 is celebrating its 35th anniversary. The Air Jordan 5 Fire Red (Black Tongue) is one of the most famous colorways. It is not just popular for the 5, but for the whole Air Jordan line. The White, Black and Fire Red color scheme is a timeless one for the Jordan line.

The upper of the shoe is made with premium materials. There is mesh netting on the side panels. The bold black tongue is the most striking piece of the silhouette. The “23” embroidered on the side is also a unique and memorable piece of the shoe.

The heel has Nike Air branding, which is true to the vintage shoe. Other OG nods include Fire Red accents on the midsole, lack lock and sock liner. There is also a translucent outsole.

The V

The great Tinker Hatfield designed the Jordan V. The sneaker is considered another classic on the resume of Tinker. You can make the argument that the V was the biggest departure for the line at that time.

There are similarities that the Jordan 1-4 share. The V featured a much higher cut than the previous two Jordan models. A World War II plane reportedly inspired the design. The V was a huge stylistic departure for the series.

The Legacy of The Air Jordan V

By 1990 the Air Jordan line of sneakers was considered luxury basketball shoes. A status the brand still holds today in 2022. Every kid in America wanted a pair of the Jordan V sneakers. Every kid in America also wanted to be Michael Jordan.

The V proved that the Jordan models were not losing momentum by 1990. The III and IV are two of the most beloved and memorable Air Jordan models. The V had a lot to live up to, and for the most part it lived up to the hype. The V may not be as highly regarded as the III and IV, but it is still very popular in the franchise.
