Rising NBA Star, PUMA Athlete, LaMelo Ball

Family Matters

LaMelo was born on August 22, 2001. He is from Chino Hills, California. Melo’s family is rooted in the sport of basketball. His parents, LaVar, and Tina Ball, both played college basketball. LaMelo’s brother, Lonzo, is an accomplished NBA point guard. His other brother, LiAngelo, has also played professionally.

In The Spotlight

LaVar Ball made a name for himself by boasting in the media that his three sons were destined for superstardom. His big personality put a spotlight on his family. The Ball family had their own reality show and their own sports apparel company, Big Baller Brand. LaVar’s sons were stars before they ever stepped foot into the league.

Instead of playing in college, LaMelo decided to play overseas in Lithuania and Australia. He had highlights overseas that were making it to the USA. LaMelo was known for his flashy play, that included highlight making passes, shots and ballhandling.


LaMelo would be selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the third overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. He would be named Rookie of the Year in 2021. LaMelo has been impressive in his short career with the Hornets, despite injuries slowing down a lot of his progress. He has still established himself as one of the top young point guards and players in the NBA.

LaMelo signed with PUMA in October 2020. The deal made him the face of PUMA basketball. The PUMA MB line has proven to be popular with sneakerheads. The shoes have capitalized on the flamboyant play and personality of Melo. The shoes have bright colors and have released creative collaborations. The MB line is inspired by the personality of Melo. Three shoes have been released in the line so far, with the MB.03 recently hitting sneaker shelves.
