How The Beatles Stay Relevant Today
The Beatles were an English rock band formed in 1960. They were comprised of four now extremely famous members, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. What made them so appealing was that they revolutionized the meaning of pop music at the time and set the whole concept of the genre in a new direction.
The band explored and combined all different types of music, earning a title to many as the most influential bands to pop music. By the end of their group careers, they had written over three hundred songs and won a plethora of awards and nominations.
Not only were they musicians but they were also cultural icons. As soon as they were eligible the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Each member was also appointed Members of the Order of the British Empire or knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1965.
They have created quite the legacy and are the best-selling music act of all time, consistently topping both U.S. and U.K. music charts. Fans and records are not the only thing keeping The Beatles alive today though.
Still In The Spotlight
There are many things existing and actively being created to honor and remember The Beatles. The band has a strong hold on film soundtracks and has played a huge role in the cinematic experience. Several films have used their music in trailers and movies. Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) used “Twist and Shout” during its iconic parade scene, Love Actually (2003) utilized “All You Need Is Love” for their wedding scene, Jojo Rabbit (2019) used a German rendition of “I Want to Hold Your Hand” as an opening to the film.
The 2019 jukebox musical film titled Yesterday received a lot of love from fans and earned $154.6 million which is impressive compared to its 24-million-dollar budget. The story follows the main character who after getting hit by a bus wakes up in a world where the Beatles never existed. The film ended up receiving extensive critical acclaim from critics, fans, and family of the band members.
The Future
2028 will bring us yet another cinematic revival of the life of The Beatles. The name of the project is “The Beatles- A Four Film Cinematic Event” and will be directed by Sam Mendes. Each film will individually focus on a member of the band to explore their lives in more depth.
The casting of the films has gotten a lot of buzz as well with Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. These films are highly anticipated and will further extend the already iconic legacy of The Beatles.
