Charli XCX in the A24 Spotlight
British singer-songwriter Charli XCX has become one of the most exciting figures in modern pop. She’s a boundary pushing artist whose evolution from underground favorite to mainstream star has been nothing short of thrilling. Born in Cambridge, England, she first gained attention in the early 2010s with a unique hyper-pop sound. Her early work with the PC Music collective helped redefine what pop could sound like, blending experimental production with catchy melodies.
Star On The Rise
After years of creating hits for both herself and other artists, including co-writing tracks for those such as Iggy Azalea, Selena Gomez, and the Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello hit duet “Señorita”, Charli’s stardom began to rise sharply with the release of her later albums. Her breakthrough began with the 2022 album Crash, which earned her first No. 1 in the UK and Australia.
Following this success, she continued to shine with Brat in 2024, a record that turned into a cultural phenomenon, bringing us hits such as the TikTok viral song “Apple” and the remix “Guess” featuring Billie Eilish. Brat’s success brought the artist eight Grammy nominations and multiple wins, solidifying her place as a modern pop culture icon. She upped this status even more with her joint tour with fellow singer Troye Sivan known as the “Sweat Tour.”
Despite this commercial success, Charli has never backed away from musical experimentation. Her music has consistently defied specific genres of music, blending electronic, dance, and pop influences with an unmistakable personality. Critics and fans alike have praised her for her ability to reinvent her sound while maintaining an authentic connection to her roots.
The Move To Film
But in 2025 and 2026, Charli hasn’t just been making music, she’s also making major moves in film. Her highly anticipated A24 project The Moment is set to release on January 30th and marks a bold new chapter in her creative journey.
Unlike a traditional musician’s biopic or concert film, The Moment is described as a mockumentary style drama inspired by an original idea created by Charli herself, co-written with Aidan Zamiri and Bertie Brandes. The project follows a fictionalized pop star preparing for her first arena tour, combining both real and imagined moments that explore the pressures of fame and the music industry’s demands.
It stars Charli alongside a diverse ensemble cast, including famous faces like Rosanna Arquette, Alexander Skarsgård, and even Kylie Jenner. It will also feature a score by her longtime collaborator A. G. Cook. The Moment promises to be a daring and without a doubt creative intersection of music and film, a fitting next step for an artist who has never hesitated to push boundaries.
