Packing Shoes for College

What do you really need?

Packing for college can be extremely difficult. It can be hard to decide what stays and what goes with you. More often than not, limited storage is a big deciding factor when it comes to what you can pack.

Shoes can be especially tricky due to their bulkiness. It would be easy to just bring one pair and call it a day, but that can bring up many issues in the long run. One issue is the unexpected wear and tear you will notice after wearing the same shoes for a year.

Another thing to think about is the number of events you will be attending. It can get boring wearing the same thing for every part of the day. Switching up your shoes can actually enhance an outfit and make you feel fresher in a way. Here is a breakdown of the three main types of shoes you will need to bring with you.

The Everyday Shoe

The everyday shoe is what you wear to class or the gym. It can also be a casual slip-on.

Choose what feels most comfortable for you. This shoe can range anywhere from an ASICS Trainer/running shoe to flip flops. This shoe should be easy to put on and go.

The Clean Shoe

The clean shoe should be the pair you keep nice and avoid wearing away at. These are still casual sneakers but can be worn to school events, presentations, or lowkey networking opportunities. This can be as simple as white Air Force 1s, which are incredibly versatile and classic, or a nice pair of basketball shoes. Something classy like Adidas Gazelles could also be another great option to consider.

The Adventure Shoe

The adventure shoe should be the one you plan to wear out to things like concerts, peer-thrown events, and other student functions. You should not expect these shoes to stay perfectly clean and anticipate stains and scuffs. Avoid materials like suede that cannot be cleaned easily.

You also do not want to pick a running shoe for this category. Running shoes do not elevate an outfit but instead make them look more casual.

A good choice might be classic Converse high tops or even Adidas Sambas. These shoes go with virtually any outfit and do not sacrifice style. In some cases, an everyday shoe can double as this shoe if the right one is chosen.

Personal Preference

Of course, what you decide to pack depends on your own personal style and what you feel comfortable in. Hopefully, this breakdown can spark some consideration, nevertheless.
