Basketball In His Blood

Darius Garland was named Tennessee's Mr. Basketball three times during his four-year high school career. He grew up in Indiana but moved to Tennessee right before he got into seventh grade.

Basketball was in Darius’s blood. His father played in the NBA, Winston Garland. Darius grew up with a ball in his hand, 24/7.

Baseball

Even though he grew up excelling at basketball, his first love has always been baseball. It was clear to Garland though that his future was with basketball, so he had to give up on his baseball dreams. His father also pushed him to follow in his footsteps.

NBA

In 2019, Garland was taken with the 5 pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He played college basketball for Vanderbilt. Garland only played 5 games for Vanderbilt before his season ended in injury. He would quickly impress Clevland with his playmaking, scoring and competitiveness.

On The Rise

Garland is currently in his sixth season. Currently, the Cavs are one of the best teams in the league. Many believe Cleveland could win a championship.

Garland is having his best year in the NBA, based on personal success and most importantly, team success. What truly makes him special is how hard he goes every single night. The Cavs are now a team that others want to beat. Garland’s energy and passion help them face this challenge every game.
