Carmelo Anthony is one of the top NBA players of all time. He is a scoring machine that he was almost impossible to guard in his day. The now retired legend is one of the absolute best to ever play the game. Learn more about ‘Melo’ below.
Melo
Carmelo Anthony was born on May 29, 1984, in Brooklyn, New York. Melo grew up in one of the most dangerous areas of Baltimore, Maryland. Basketball was his safe place.
College
In 2002-2003 Melo attended Syracuse University. He led his team to an NCAA championship in his single season playing for the college. After his Freshman season for Syracuse, he would enter the NBA Draft.
NBA
The Denver Nuggets took the forward with the third overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. In his rookie season he made a mark in the league. He put up big offensive numbers in his rookie season in the NBA.
If it were not for another rookie named LeBron James, Anthony would have won the Rookie of the Year Trophy. His numbers and skillset would continue to grow each season. In 2008-2009 he would help take Denver to the Western Conference Finals.
Overall, Melo’s time in Denver was disappointing. Playoff success eluded the franchise for Anothony’s career in Denver.
New York
In 2011, Melo was traded to the New York Knicks. There was a lot of hype when the superstar joined the Knicks.
He would put up huge numbers during his tenure with the New York basketball team. After Denver, Melo was known to come up short in the playoffs. His reputation would continue to be hurt with the lack of playoff success in NY.
Ending Of Career
Towards the end of his career, Anthony would become a journeyman of sorts. He would play for the Oklahoma City Thunder during the 1017-2018 season. His time there was uneventful.
He would first join the Houston Rockets. Then, he would move to the Portland Trail Blazers. Finally, he would end his NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Legacy
Anthony never found team success in the NBA. He was a talented player he never could take his team to the ultimate level of success. Critics would blame his leadership, lack of playmaking and defense.
But in the end, Melo just may have been unlucky. The same way many other great NBA players could never win a ring. He was able to find success in college and won three Olympic Gold Medals for Team USA.
