Air Max Day: A History of the Legendary Nike Holiday

3.26 – To commemorate the release of the original Air Max 1 in 1987, Air Max Day was established on March 26, 2014. Nike Air Max Day is an annual celebration honoring the legacy of Nike’s Air Max line, which revolutionized the sneaker industry with its visible air cushioning technology. The event includes special releases, events, and activations globally, uniting sneaker enthusiasts and celebrating Air Max culture worldwide. Nike first introduced Air cushioning technology in 1979 with the Air Tailwind. However, the Air Max 1 was the pair that started it all. The Air Max 1 was designed by Tinker Hatfield, a legendary designer who created iconic Nike sneakers. The shoe made its mark as it featured a visible air unit in the heel, showcasing Nike’s innovative Air technology.
