NBA Star, Donovan Mitchell

Donovan Mitchell is an all-star guard that has been a prominent name in the league for years. The multiple time all-star has put up incredible numbers when it comes to scoring the basketball. Learn more about the life of Mitchell below.

The Beginning

Mitchell was born on September 7, 1996. He is from New York. His father was a minor league baseball player, and that was the first sport Mitchell gravitated to. Eventually, he would develop and recognize his skill in basketball.

Basketball Star

Mitchell would stand out in high school on the court. His game would catch the attention of the University of Louisville. Mitchell struggled a bit during the start of his collegiate career. His Freshman season was far from spectacular. However, his sophomore season would be much different. The guard would improve his shooting, especially from deep. His improved shooting allowed him to utilize his speed and athleticism going to the basket.

NBA

The Denver Nuggets selected Mitchell as the number 13 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. He was then quickly traded to the Utah Jazz. Mitchell made a splash early in his career. Mitchell would wear #45 to honor Michael Jordan’s baseball number, and the number he wore when he returned from retirement for the first time. He would win the 2018 Slam Dunk Contest and finished second in Rookie of the Year voting. Mitchell would have a strong career in Utah. He would put up big numbers as one of the league’s most dynamic scorers. The guard would spend five seasons in Utah, but he never was able to achieve the kind of success he wanted in the playoffs. The Jazz seemed to consistently fizzle out in the playoffs, after having promising regular season runs.

Changing Locations

Mitchell would join the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2022. The Cavs had a strong young roster, and Mitchell’s addition was hoped to put them over the top. As of 2024, the Cavs have grown as a team, but are still hoping for the playoff success the organization, and its star player, Mitchell, are focused on.
